A dedicated orchestral musician, Christian Liberty Marshall has served as principal violist on many international projects, including festivals, academies and tours in Austria, China, Japan, Hungary, the United Kingdom and the United States. He has performed as soloist with the Kunst Universitaet Graz Orchester and is currently a member of the Orchester Akademie Ossiach. A respected chamber musician, Christian worked with members of the Blair, Colorado, Emerson and Ives String Quartets, as well as members of the Cleveland Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and Vienna Philharmonic. Mr. Marshall holds a Bachelors degree with high honors from Vanderbilt University where he studied with Kathryn Plummer and John Kochanowski. He currently lives in Austria where he studies with Matthias Maurer at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Graz.
Born in Miami, Florida, Christian Marshall began his musical studies relatively late at the age of 15, after receiving a violin as a present. Three years later he was introduced to the viola and decided to pursue it as a career. He obtained a B.Mus. degree with high honors from Vanderbilt University while studying with Kathryn Plummer and John Kochanowski. Christian currently studies with Matthias Maurer at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, where he also studies chamber music with Stephen Goerner. Christian has also performed as solo-violist with the Kunst Universtaet Graz Orchester. Most recently a member of the Orchester Akademie Ossiach 2009/2010 season. Keen on performing chamber music, Christian has worked with members of the Blair, Colorado, Emerson and Ives String Quartets, as well as members of the Cleveland Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and Vienna Philharmonic, and is has been a member of the Halo Ensemble since its first tour in 2009.
