Described by international concert artist Christina Jennings as a flutist with a "light and beautiful sound, and a dedication to musical expression above all else", Laura Hairgrove made her concerto debut at the age of seventeen with the Clear Lake Symphony and Virtuosi in Houston. In demand for her diverse solo and chamber repertoire, Ms. Hairgrove has premiered works in venues across the U.S. and Europe including Symphony Space Concert Hall in Manhattan and the Crescendo Summer Institute of the Arts in Hungary. She attended the Peabody Institute and earned a Bachelor of Arts in music from Cornell University. She completed her Master's studies with Robert Willoughby and Vanessa Breault Mulvey at the Longy School of Music and is a founding member and Executive Director of the Halo Ensemble. Flutist Laura Hairgrove performs regularly throughout the United States and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. Ms. Hairgrove is a founding member and Executive Director of the Halo Ensemble, an innovative young international artists collaborative, and most recently appeared in concerts in Sárospatak, Hungary, Lohja, Finland, and Helsinki.
Originally from Houston, Texas, Ms. Hairgrove’s musical studies began at the age of three and her flute studies at the age of nine. She has since performed for such noted masters as Zoltan Gyongyossy, Bonita Boyd, Tadeu Coelho, Alexa Still, Nobutaka Shimizu, Bradley Garner and Thomas Robertello. An enthusiastic promoter of new music, Ms. Hairgrove has been engaged to premiere several new works, including Damon Ferrante’s Super Double Lite in Manhattan, NY at Symphony Space Concert Hall and Greg Pascuzzi’s Mourning into Dancing at the Crescendo Summer Institute of the Arts in Sárospatak, Hungary. She has performed with the Longitude Ensemble in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the Peabody Camerata in Baltimore, Maryland.
Ms. Hairgrove participated in the Crescendo Summer Institute of the Arts in Sárospatak, Hungary during the 2008 and 2009 summer season and in the MasterWorks Festival in Winona Lake, Indiana every consecutive summer from 2006-2009. In the summer 2008 Ms. Hairgrove participated in Recreatio, a week long arts summit in Winchester, England sponsored by the MasterWorks Festival. Ms. Hairgrove’s teachers include Robert Willoughby, Elizabeth Rowe, Rebecca Gilbert, Sydney Carlson, and Christina Jennings. A committed chamber musician, Ms. Hairgrove has coached with pianist Seth Knopp of the Peabody Trio, cellist Mihaly Virizlay and clarinetist Edward Palanker of the Baltimore Symphony Orchesra, and cellist Min Cao of the Shanghai Conservatory. Ms. Hairgrove studied flute performance at the Peabody Institute and ultimately earned her Bachelor of Arts in music from Cornell University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music in flute performance at the Longy School of Music where she studies with Robert Willoughby and Vanessa Breault Mulvey.
When not playing the flute, Ms. Hairgrove can be found exploring other creative and recreational interests including writing, oil painting, cooking, biking, running and probing through the latest in contemporary fiction in the hopes of one day discovering this generation’s Jane Austen.
