An accomplished violinist and versatile musician, Michael O'Gieblyn adroitly navigates across musical genres including classical, Broadway, fiddle, and pop music. He performed in the world premiere of the Broadway musical The Glorious Ones, playing solo violin and mandolin, and on the soundtrack to the 2006 motion picture Home of the Brave. An avid chamber musician, he was recently featured on two newly released CD’s by Paul Luc and Christina Chirumbolo. Mr. O’Gieblyn participated in international summer festivals in Montpellier, France; Beverly Hills, CA; and Pilsen, Czech Republic, and received the “Marylin and Ray Gindroz Prize” to study in Europe. He holds a degree with honors in violin performance from Carnegie Mellon University where he studied with Cyrus Forough. Mr. O’Gieblyn has performed with the Erie Philharmonic, McKeesport Symphony, and the Österreich Vienna Classic Philharmonic's 2010 tour of China. He currently is assistant concertmaster of Symphony of the Lakes, and lives and performs in Winona Lake, Indiana.
Michael O'Gieblyn began studying the violin at the age of three, in his hometown, Detroit. He has performed with the Detroit Civic Orchestra, also serving as concertmaster of the University of Michigan-University Orchestra.
Michael earned his Bachelors Degree with Honors, from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied with Cyrus Forough. Mr. O’Gieblyn has participated in international summer festivals in Montpellier, France; Beverly Hills, CA; and Pilsen, Czech Republic, as well as the Masterworks Festival. In 2007, he performed in the world premiere of the Broadway musical The Glorious Ones, playing solo violin and mandolin.
Michael performs regularly with many orchestras in the Pittsburgh area including those in Erie, McKeesport, Westmoreland, and has served as assistant concertmaster in Beaver Valley. As an avid chamber musician, he performs with many groups, and was recently featured on two newly released CD’s by Paul Luc, and Christina Chirumbolo. Michael also performed on the soundtrack to the 2006 motion picture Home of the Brave. Michael recently concluded a contract as leader of the “Adagio String Quartet,” aboard Holland America Line’s MS Ooosterdam.
In the summer of 2007, Michael won the “Marylin and Ray Gindroz Prize” and traveled throughout Europe on scholarship to study and experience European’s finest orchestras and famous concert halls.
